My rates and availability

I’m currently booked out until November 2018, but I’m happy to chat about what you need going forward.

My rates are in line with ProCopyWriter’s suggested rates for writers in Scotland.

I use an umbrella company for contracting, which protects you from IR35 duties. I also hold a Basic Disclosure Scotland certificate.

Copy-editing and substantive editing

I’ve helped writers make their technical subject matter more accessible to their audience

I like helping subject matter experts become their best writer selves. I’ll get to know your brand guidelines inside and out, and help you deliver on-brand, plain English content for your intended audience. I’ll also offer advice on the structure, format, logic, organisation, and flow of your content. I edit in Word with tracked changes, but I’m open to other alternatives (Google Docs, Adobe Indesign, etc). Just let me know what you need.

Need me to craft content that doesn’t break your existing design?

I temped in telesales the first time I wrote content. It was a low-paying job that tided me over until I found a slightly-better low-paying job. We had no training or support, we were just handed a piece of paper to read off to each potential customer we called. It was a fake offer to get salespeople in the door. I hated that it was a lie. Quite a few customers figured it out too. With cuss-words.

So, I wrote a new script.

I didn’t have to lie anymore. It was easier to read.  The customers didn’t yell at me or the salesmen who appeared at their doors. Win.

It was just a simple change. A switch away from the company and onto the customer.

Content consultancy and other services

Sometimes the content you need doesn’t fit into a neat little once-off package. I’ve worked with teams on:

  • evolving brand and editorial guides
  • content guidance and strategy
  • content design / UX writing
  • ghostwriting

I can also edit or add content directly in Adobe InDesign (annual reports, editorial etc), Illustrator (wireframes, mockups etc), Photoshop, WordPress, MailChimp, or static HTML websites. I’ve used Adobe XD and Marvel Prototyping, and can generally pick up apps, content management systems, and programs quickly.
